Hi everyone!

I came home to this plant on my door steps:

It is a very rare find here. I think it is a Pink lady slipper orchid.

My grandma found it growing wild at my aunts house out in the woods, I appreciate her picking it for me. But really something like this should have been left alone and just marked and protected. But my aunt and uncle would have probably ran it over with ATV's and stuff. So I guess it might be saved coming to me (as long as I can keep it alive)

My grandma planted it in a red plastic cup with the soil that it was growing in.

Should I replant it into a regular pot and give it new soil? Or should I give it a new pot but keep the soil? Should I mix some of the soil with new and replant it? What sort of soil should it be in? I don't know what to do that won't hurt it. I am looking up pink lady slippers and seeing if I can get an idea on care.

I am very proud to get to see this plant. So any ideas on its care? I would hate to see it die.

An indoor basement plant 'room'

Hi everyone,
First off, i don't have any bananas growing, but I just thought I would share some photos of our indoor plant 'room' that we setup in our basement. It started as a 3x4'x8' tall area marked off with painters 3mm plastic tarp. We set this up in our basement with a single 2' flourescent grow light and a humidifier. We needed an area to keep humidity high for our two cacao plants; they like 80%+ humidity. We have 20% here in Colorado. Lol. Talk about a challenge!
We quickly decided that we wanted to make a bigger setup and we had a friend with some extra equipment. He has a full room, i'm talking completely framed out, with industrial equipment and lights. He grows ultra tropicals(no not pot lol). So we scooped up a 400watt halide bulb, ballast and housing, and a lightrail 3.5 system. Plus an 8'x4' section of mylar, and an 8'x8' section of orca film.
So our new setup is 8x4x8' tall.

We have the 400w halide bulb on the light rail, running about 4.5' of the track. Directly under the halide we have two rolling plant racks stuffed full of tropicals. On the second shelf below the top shelf, are tropicals that require some shade like coffee. On the bottom shelf we have a 4' 4bulb flourescent hovering over a heat mat which we currently have jackfruit seeds, and cacao seeds freshly planted in. On the wall side of the rolling racks are the two large cacaos, who have the 2' flourescent grow bulb above them. On the opposite side of the racks is a stand with the halide ballast, oscilating fan and a humidifier.
Tonight we hung up the sheet of mylar and orca film. Only enough to cover two walls.

The ambient temp in the basement is 62* at night, and 68* during the day. Right now the room is about 2* warmer than that. With the mylar and orca film reflecting light and heat(orca film also reflects non visible rays) it should help to keep heat inside. Plust the extra layer will help insulate. But we plan on going out to a thrift store and picking up some old blankets and hanging these up on the outside of the plant room. I'd like to get the room atleast 77* during the day.
I know it's kind of hard to make out the room in the photos but hope you enjoy!
This is a recent trip my husband and I have visited. It is Inner Space Caverns in Georgetown Texas. The caverns stay a constant 71 degrees year round. (I always wanted to live in a cave just for that reason alone!) There were a lot of different types of formations in this cave formed by water over limestone and is a "living" cave meaning it is still actively forming. The colors were a lot more varied and rich than my shots are showing. It was truly gorgeous and it was a fun afternoon. I took lots of pictures, we were actually encouraged to do so (unusual). The pictures with the gold tones are without a flash and the lighting that they have used in the cave, the others are with my camera flash.
Ok, so I a couple minutes ago I checked on my Alocasia x amazonica elephant ear and saw it had a pup I was excited about that. But then something caught my eye, tiny mites

They are completely covering this plants soil. But I don't notice any mites in my other plants soil, so maybe they are only in this one?

Also, I just had all my plants in the bathroom right next to each other last week. Could they all be in all my plants now?

I have it quarantined in my bathroom. I sprayed the soil with some rubbing alcohol (partially because I was freaking out, and knew it would kill them). I am going to replant it with new soil and soak the roots on the plant.

Any more ideas? What can I do about this? They are tiny, and I think white.

This is the thread for all your hydroponics, aeroponics, and any other form of soil less plant growing. (Not Aerogardens though, those have their own thread , although they are hydroponics)
I just went to the Holland hydroponics outlet and bought me some new net pots I might end up setting up a small hydroponic thing or something.
My first one is a deep water culture. One of the easiest ones and most seen/used ones. It is the same thing that a Aerogarden is. I might be trying out some more like a flood and drain maybe. I am trying to use things I already have so I don't have to buy anything.

Hi,
I used to use Osmocote slow release, just to realize it had no micro nutrients and was actually a very poor fertilizer by itself. So I am switching all my plants over to this Bonsai pro urea free 7-9-5 water soluble fertilizer.

Quite a few of my plants (according to online care pages) say that they can only be fertilized about once a month (or for my draceana, apparently once a year).

So I should go with the care pages online right? If it says to fertilize once a month then just fertilize once a month right?

I am asking just to be sure. I don't want to accidentally over or under fertilize.

After I find out for sure on all my plants I am planning on making a calender for them. Marking when to fertilize certain plants and hopefully that will be ok for them
